The Catznip Viewer is a new addition on the third party viewer (TPV) list. It offers Restrained Love in a viewer modeled closely on the Linden viewer. For new residents of Second Life and those of us who have become accustomed to the Linden Viewer over the more than 2 years of its existence, this is good news.
It offers an alternative to the Firestorm Viewer and Marine's venerable Restrained Love Viewer, along with others who have offered RLV for varying periods of time.
I've been using Catznip for about 4 months now, yes it was available before being placed on the TPV list and it works great. It became one of the recommended viewers for girls joining the Toy Slaves Brothel (RLV required) approximately 8 weeks ago and has functioned very well.
There is more to the viewer than just RLV, here's what the developers Kitty Barnett & Trinity Dejavu say about their viewer.
"Catznip aims to refine and reinvent your window into Second Life. Our focus is stability, usability, privacy and plenty of new original home grown features.
As a project, Catznip is not and will never be a bucket list of features cherry picked from the other projects, nor a laundry list of pre-release Linden code. It’s about taking a fresh look at things and attempting to do them better.We are very open to feature ideas or requests, but please present them in the form of a use case and not simply “Add X from Viewer Y” !"
If you have followed the development of RLVa, you'll recognize Kitty as a developer of the Restrained Love used in many of the Third Party Viewers.

Here's a short video about installing it. It's easy, no files to transfer over, just download, install and jump into Second Life. It comes with RLVa turned off. All of the viewers excepting Marine's (where it's always on) arrive with Restrained Love turned off.
To activate it in the viewer go to Preferences (Ctrl+P), when the Preferences window opens choose the side tab labelled Catznip and place a checkmark in the box for RestrainedLove API suppoert (requires restart). The viewer will need to indeed be restarted for RLVa to take effect, so log out and then back in and you'll be in RLVa.

Correcting a bad hair day in Second Life may just be easier than in Real Life. I've created a video to illustrate how to use the edit menu and resizing menu(available in many hairs) to properly fit hair to your avatar in Second Life. Anyone who has tried to explain how to do this to a new resident using text is sure to understand, I hope this video helps. I hope that people eventually do learn all these things without much help. I've been a little lazy in posting to my blog in the last few months. Lots of different reasons that I simply won't bore you with. Getting back to my original purpose of promoting and informing and training (that might be three purposes) in Second Life, I have decided on starting back up with a new video. One perplexing issue that I see over and over again, is residents not wearing their shoes properly. Shoes have evolved from simple objects with feet squeezed into them, blocky SL toes revealed in our open toed sandals, to delicate constructions with beautiful feet and incredibly detailed shoes. Along with these changes came HUDs to do many, many things. Perhaps the most important of these was matching the foot colour in these new shoes to your skin. That was always the early knock on wearing the shoes, however, the creators have become incredibly adept at skin matching offering the ability to make very subtle changes even in some cases including notecards with RGB numbers for the most common skins. With all of this, the most common mistake I see new residents make is failing to wear the shoe shape...
it's the clothing layer piece that allows your foot to be shaped to fit inside. The video gives more details on how to wear shoes.

If you're in business in Second Life, especially, my kind of business, it's always wise to protect yourself by saving your Chat and IM logs to your computer. I've posted a video showing how to do it in Firestorm, Restrained Love, the Linden Viewer and Phoenix. Be careful how you use the logs, they're for your protection and enjoyment. Sharing them with others without their permission is viewed by some as a violation of the Terms of Service. Why get into the whole debate, be safe rather than sorry...keep them private. Oh my goodness! So much good news, I may just burst. I downloaded the latest version of the Firestorm viewer, still in beta, but, now enabled for Mesh.
Besides the Mesh ability (viewers not so enabled do not see objects in mesh properly) the viewer start-up screen now gives the option to mimic V3 (the Linden viewer) or v1 (the old style interface) when you install Firestorm. If you have been following my posts, you'll know that I created a video recently that illustrated how to make the standard Firestorm viewer look like the Linden Viewer. Happily, those instructions have been made unnecessary by the developers at Firestorm...Bravo!
Another piece of news hot off the presses for you viewer 1 people is that Phoenix will have mesh support. The developers at Phoenix correctly give credit to Henri Beauchamp (Cool VL viewer developer) for this development, but, caution that it's akin to ( I love Jessica's metaphor) "putting the diesel engine from a bus into a Ford Pinto". You can read all of her comments on the Phoenix blog. Phoenix Viewer Gets Mesh It should be required reading for anyone still using the Phoenix viewer.

What an incredible breath of fresh air. Gone is the age verification system that had people from all over the world sending passport, driver's license and SSN information for verification...yea!
To replace it a new age verification process, and this may sound familiar, you enter your date of birth, check a box verifying that it is true, then submit.
Yes, just that simple.
Go to your Dashboard, you'll find it under the Me menu, then Account and on that drop-down(mine always seems to be open to Account) choose Age Verification. There you'll find the boxes to enter your date of birth. If you have already given this information to Linden at some point, the boxes will be already filled in, mine were, then, put a checkmark in the box verifying that the information is true and submit.
Submitting this information is the first step, now go to your Preferences in the viewer (Ctrl+P) or (Me menu, Preferences, General) and change your preferences to allow you to view all content (General, Moderate and Adult).
So, there you are. If you've avoided checking out the incredible part of Second Life that is Adult because you were concerned about giving your private information...that bar has been lifted.
There are a surprising number of new residents who go into Appearance mode in order to change clothing. Each time I see someone do this, I just want to shout out how much more easily they could do it from their inventory. If someone has a comment about why they are using the Appearance editor, I'd love to hear it. The best I've been able to come up with on my own is that the Linden "outfits" are stored under that tab and if those outfits are all that you've got when you start, it seems logical to change there. Any suggestions?

Wear, replaces what you are currently wearing on that layer or attachment point (in the Kirsten's viewer, she's actually used the word "replace" in the menu, in place of "wear").

When I first joined Second Life, there were two default avatars, the boy next door and the girl next door. If ever you hear someone in world say they been "Ruthed" they are referring to this default avatar. Before you ask, I have no idea how the name came about. Being Ruthed means you have been taken back to the default avatar, it is also a way to correct errors when you load. Thank goodness most people never experience it, but, I have helped girls to recover from it on occasion.
While it was traumatic for them, no real life therapy was required in any of the cases.
Linden Labs has gone a long way since those early days to improve the avatar choice and now there are many many choices. But still, one of the first things people want to do is modify their look and that is my jumping off point for this post.
Jennnnna Jameson, now known in SL as Emanuelle Jameson (we won't get into it right now) is a respected voice in the porn community in Second Life. You'll find her blog filled with commentary and links to some of the best available erotic machinima. Don't let the blonde hair fool you Jennnnna is one sharp lady.

Second Life avatars come in all forms, shapes and sizes, but, I have to admit the number of beautiful people found in Second Life outstrips Hollywood, Monaco, Brazil and Australia combined. But then, those places don't have Furries, Aliens, Vampires and Anime, do they?

Probably after the "What do I do now?" question, the next most common is "How do I ..._____?" Linden has done a great job of teaching the very basic things in the intake process. The process is short, thank goodness; when people think of joining our community, they don't want to spend hours learning how. There is, however, still a lot to learn once you finish it. And the Linden training says nothing about Adult.
This post is mostly taken from a note card that I give to new residents when I see them arrive in the club. Just by their arrival, I know that they are adult verified (we are an adult sim, you cannot visit without first being verified by Linden) and that they have their viewer set to advanced. Otherwise, they could not receive the informational notecard or the free clothing, hair, shapes etc. I send.
Here are some web resources to help you learn about SL (Second Life).
Linden Labs (the owners of SL) started a new user interface in the Spring of 2010. You might hear some of the residents complaining about it, but, it is the default viewer and likely the one you received on coming to Second Life. It's a perfectly good viewer; the complaints are mostly about learning something new.
One of the best things about it is it's contextual help. You are probably used to that from the web, but, the browser help in Second Life is much improved over the previous viewer. There is an excellent video about it here.
Torley Linden, who did the video you just watched is probably the most recognized voice in Second Life. He has hundreds of tutorial videos covering how things work. His video tutorials are great!
Look at the Quick Start guide he mentioned in the video. I did a short unofficial video about it.
Next, is the official site for videos. There are many video tutorials on lots of topics. Under the index look for "Beginners" first, but don't stop there. There's lots of stuff non critical to you for now, but, it will show you the fascination that keeps most of us here in Second Life. There's just sooo much to do!
Not just Torley, but, many residents of Second Life have created videos you can find on You Tube and other sites.
But you are going to want to get started, so, come to the club where you will find RESOURCES YOU CAN USE RIGHT AWAY AT TOYS. For tutorials and free stuff check out the abandoned XXX Theatre at the top of the stairs near the escort boards in the club. We've converted it to a new resident welcome centre.
You'll find an animation override (it makes the Linden walk smoother, among other things) and a cock (yes gentlemen, you'll need one of those).
I have some information on this blog too. Dealing with how to sign up, become adult verified and how to set your viewer to "advanced" in order to search for adult themes and sex in Second Life. Please check through the archive posts.

What is Restrained Love (RLV)?
The Restrained Love Viewer (RLV) is a different way of experiencing Second Life. For those interested in exploring dominance and submission it provides opportunities to make those Second Life experiences more real and the control and power exchange deeper and more involving.
The Restrained Love Viewer is an alternative to the standard Second Life Viewer. It was created by Marine Kelley. She, along with others have created a wide range of restraints that use the capabilities the viewer provides to make a true restraint experience in Second Life. Most collars and many of the restraints you find in the BDSM or D/s environments in Second Life use RLV to make them inescapable to a submissive or slave using the Restrained Love Viewer. By using RLV the bottom gives away their control to the Dominant. The Dominant does not need to be in the Restrained Love Viewer, the submissive uses it.
The slaves at Toys Brothel are in RLV with an active relay always ready to serve.
Among the experiences you can have with the Restrained Love Viewer that are not possible with standard Second Life include:
❤ Limits to communication - Blocked chat, IM's or notecards, hidden names and locations
❤ Forced stripping and wearing of clothes and attachments
❤ Inescapable cages and other bondage devices
❤ Forced tp anywhere your dom may want to send you
❤ Loss of privacy due to monitoring of your Second Life experience and communication
❤ Sensory deprivation limiting vision, sound, and touch
❤ Limits to your mobility in Second Life
You might invest in any of a number of control devices for your submissive, however, there are free relays available on Marketplace
Search for RLV relay and you will find some free items, if you are a resident of Second Life you'll see more by signing in and if you are adult verified in Second Life even more.
As noted most collars already operate in RLV. You only need to know the collar commands.
I've included the following link as it provides an easy reference for the Amethyst Collar (available at Sensations) a very popular collar brand in Second life and illustrates the type of things you can do with RLV and just the collar. The Amethyst collar is by no means the only collar available. The author of the pdf Duchesse Klip Klaar asks for a donation of 19L$ (about 7 or 8 cents) paid in world.
The same information is available in a note card for free when you buy the collar(without the nice cataloging of commands or the pretty pictures).
There are many brands of collars available, some are even free. Instructions and commands for collars are usually contained in note cards included with the collar.
Why would anyone want to have these experiences in Second Life? It's because control and power exchange lies at the heart of the dominance and submission experience. The Restrained Life Viewer makes it all more possible and real in the world of Second Life.

Welcome to another Toy Slaves training video.
So you are thinking about becoming a Toy Slave, hopefully, this video will help you to decide whether you wish to join our family and assist you in completing the intake process.
Toy Slaves is an active club having, at the time of this video, five Sims, 10 play areas, 200 girls and more than 30 Dominants. There is no pay. Everything we do supports the club and the play areas. Our slaves turn over everything they earn to Madame Aprille and the family. In return Madame supplies us with areas to live, work and play. In addition, she provides for the slaves' physical and emotional needs.
Now to begin. From the club, look behind the bar to the red sign that says, " be a toy slave" Left clicking on the sign will Teleport you to a small room where you can learn more or begin the intake procedure.
It is important to understand the rules we all abide by. Our number one rule is that real life comes first, always. Please pause the video to read the remaining rules. It is important that you understand them.
If having read the rules, you still wish to continue with the intake procedure, select the stream that you wish to follow. You may choose dominant, switch or slave. All of our Dominants take the slave training as well. This allows them to better understand the process should they be called upon to help a slave during intake. Dominants who complete the slave training should contact Madame Aprille or Madame Trix to obtain our Dominant Handbook.
As the sign reads, we are not accepting male submissives or switches. If you are a male and wish to serve Madame, you may contact Aprille Shepherd and arrange a suitable tribute.
If, instead of "join now" you select "learn more", you will receive a link the Toy Slaves web site.
Selecting the dominant, switch or submissive button above Apply Now determines the group tag you will receive for the phase one training. Otherwise, the process remains the same. We will use the submissive button for the purpose of this video. Left clicking a button initiates a number of processes.
First, you will receive a popup. Upon selecting the link you will be connected to the Toy Slaves web site. It requests that you copy some system information into the box, we collect this information for our security. The text above the box explains. The information we ask for is available under Help on the Second Life menu bar. Under Help, select "About Second Life", from here you can copy the information using either copy and paste or the convenient button. You will likely need to bring the webpage up again and paste the information into the box. Click on submit and the webpage will close and you will receive a group invite. The invite is important in enabling you to Teleport to the phase one training area.
One other thing, when interacting with Dominants or clients you will need to be wearing your group tag. Newer versions of the Second Life viewer come with group titles turned off by default. To correct this, go to the Me menu on the Second Life menu bar and select Preferences. Under the General tab ensure that the show group titles checkbox is selected. The map Teleport window is preselected to take you to the phase one training area. Left click on Teleport.
Our phase one training area is designed to assist Second Life residents of many experience levels. For experienced residents this area will be incredibly simple, however, if you are unfamiliar with the Restrained Love functions or have not participated in BDSM in Second Life you will find this area helpful. The podiums where you landed provide some very basic videos for the Second Life viewer. If you are already familiar with how the viewer works these are unnecessary.
Next proceed to the XXX theatre. Inside you will find more basic instruction for using common items found in Second Life. Experienced residents will probably recognize how to do all of these things. Select any that may be of interest to you as training.
Proceeding through the building, you will come upon four coloured pads. The first of these has a Toy Slaves collar, this is a Toys in Waiting collar, follow the instructions and wear it. The next pad has a video about the Restrained Love viewer. If you do not already have Restrained Love, you should download and install it at this point. Instructions are included in the video. Using and being in Restrained Love is a requirement for slaves at Toy Slaves Brothel and absolutely necessary to complete the intake process. Our Dominants do not normally need to be in Restrained Love, however, will need it for the intake process to complete.
The final pad, the blue one, is a good place to set your home just in case you are unable to complete the phase one training today. The pad will allow you to return to this point in the training. You must be wearing an "In Waiting" tag to set your home to here.
Continuing down the path you will encounter another podium, at this one you can obtain some BDSM equipment. Looking ahead is some equipment we commonly use in the play areas. The locking feature on these items has been disabled, when next you encounter these types of items you will need to be careful not to lock yourself into a submissive pose. These, however, are safe to explore.
Next, move to the large metal door. Behind this door is the end of phase one training, it has a test to determine your suitability to be a Toy Slave submissive. It is necessary to pass the test with a score of at least 70% to proceed to phase two training. You may take the test a second time if you do not achieve a score of 70%. True Dominants will likely need to get in touch with their submissive side [or cheat a little].
Through the door, left clicking on the poster will get you a testing HUD; find the HUD in your recent inventory and wear it. Choose one of the white pillows and sit. Left clicking the HUD will begin the test; there are 55 multiple choice questions. There is plenty of time to answer them all.
Once you answer the last question, the HUD will score the test and send your results almost immediately. You will also receive a pass note and an invite to the Training group. The pass note contains instructions you will require during the next phase of intake. You should find it in your recent inventory and open it.
You can stand and detach the testing HUD. Check to be sure you are wearing the TSB trainee tag and left click on the Toys Training Center door behind you. It is a Teleport to the next step on your journey.
Follow the instructions in each of the rooms you enter, you will be asked to leave the Restrained Love viewer in the first room and asked return to it before leaving room 2. For the Dominants, especially the men, follow the instructions exactly or you will miss all the fun.

When you are dropped off at the other end, click on the training centre door and step out into our training area. Read the notecard that you received then proceed down the green line where you will receive a link to a video describing what to do next.
That certainly didn't take long. 10 days ago we were reporting on Physics in Snowstorm and as of Friday, Physics made it into the regular viewer download.
Is this a game changer for viewer 2? Only time will tell.

Once you have it installed, go to the My Outfits tab under My Appearance on the Sidebar. Click on the gear icon 1 at the bottom of the pane and choose New Clothes 2 then New Physics 3
Physics behaves much as any new clothing layer would. The layer opens with the default movement set to zero, that translates to no movement. Move the sliders to increase the effects, then fine tune your settings using one of your favourite dances to view the movement.
My Physics layer opened at Breast Bounce 1, I initially set this to 50% and left the other settings as they were. Move on to each of the other areas 2, Breast Cleavage, Breast Sway, Belly Bounce, Butt Bounce and Butt Sway creating your personalized physics.
The final settings under Advanced Parameters refine the movement even more with things like Mass.
Finally, name and save 3 the physics you've created. You can create additional physics layers, maybe you would like to mimic different amounts of movement under a dress as opposed to the movement you would see with a flimsy bikini. It is worn just like clothing, so be sure to include it in your outfits as you create them.
